Why is Vitamin C Powder so much cheaper than a Vitamin C Tablet?

Vitamin C, or ascorbic acid, is an essential nutrient we can only get from food and supplements. It helps our body build connective tissues, heal itself, helps fight off free radicals, keeps away scurvy and can even help with our eyesight as we age.

Both natural and synthesised vitamin C are identical. When it comes to supplements, you can have immediate-release supplements, in the form of vitamin C powders, tablets, liquids and gummies, where the vitamin C is released immediately, as well as delayed-release, like capsules, soft gels and some others that use shells to delay the release of the vitamin C.

Immediate release is better for absorption, so vitamin C powder is actually better to take, plus, it’s often cheaper due to less labour, manufacturing processes and overhead costs that come with capsule forms.

The amount of vitamin C you need depends on your age, but for adult men, about 90mg and for adult women, about 75mg per day. It can also be taken at any time during the day, just make sure you take it consistently. Keep in mind that excess vitamin C can lead to digestive issues, fatigue, insomnia, headaches and even kidney stones.
