Above is a comprehensive list of research & clinical trials conducted to date.
Details of each study, including focus, study subjects, dosage, date & results or findings
Paper #01 -Cardioprotection by resveratrol: A human clinical trial in patients with stable coronary artery disease
Summary: In patients with coronary artery diseases, resveratrol was found to have beneficial effects on the heart's relaxation, blood vessel function, cholestrol levels, and blood flow.
Publication Date: 1 January 2012
Focus: Cardioprotective effect
Study Subjects: 40 Caucasian patients with a history of myocardial infarction
Dosage: 10 mg resveratrol capsule daily for 3 months
Results/Findings: While resveratrol treatment did not significantly increase the left ventricular ejection fraction, it did significantly improve left ventricular diastolic function, endothelial function, and lower LDL levels. In contrast, the placebo group showed significant unfavorable changes in red blood cells deformability and platelet aggregation, which were prevented by resveratrol treatment.
Paper #02 -Anti-inflammatory and antioxidant effects of resveratrol in healthy smokers a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled, cross-over trial
Summary: Resveratrol supplementation may have a beneficial impact on the heightened cardiovascular risk of smokers, owing to its anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and hypotriglyceridemic properties.
Publication Date: 31 October 2017
Focus: Inflammation and oxidative stress
Study Subjects: 50 Piedmont residents aged between 20-50 years engaging in both smoking and alcohol consumption
Dosage: 500 mg resveratrol daily for 3 months
Results/Findings: Resveratrol was found to significantly lower inflammation and triglyceride levels and increase antioxidant activity, while other health markers such as blood sugar, cholesterol, and blood pressure did not significantly change in response to the supplement.
Paper #03 -Resveratrol improves insulin sensitivity, reduces oxidative stress and activates the Akt pathway in type 2 diabetic patients
Summary: This study provides novel evidence that resveratrol enhances insulin sensitivity in humans, potentially by reducing oxidative stress and faciliating more effective insulin signaling through the Akt pathway in type 2 diabetic patients
Publication Date: 9 March 2011
Focus: Type 2 diabetes
Study Subjects: 19 Caucasian male patients previously diagnosed with type 2 diabetes
Dosage: 5 mg resveratrol twice daily for 1 month
Results/Findings: Resveratrol supplementation for 1 month was found to lower insulin resistance and decrease certain substances in urine excretion, while also increasing the pAkt:Akt ratio in platelets, but did not affect parameters related to b-cell function.
Paper #04 -Resveratrol supplementation improves glycemic control in type 2 diabetes mellitus
Summary: Oral administration of resveratrol was demonstrated to be effective in improving the control of blood sugar levels and may be a promising adjunctive therapy for the treatment and management of diabetes.
Publication Date: 8 June 2012
Focus: Type 2 diabetes
Study Subjects: 62 Indian patients with Type 2 diabetes mellitus
Dosage: 250 mg resveratrol taken daily for 3 months
Results/Findings: Resveratrol supplementation led to significant improvements in mean hemoglobin A1c levels, systolic blood pressure, total cholesterol, and total protein in individuals with type 2 diabetes mellitus, while no significant changes were observed in body weight, high-density lipoprotein and low-density lipoprotein cholesterol levels.
Paper #05 -Resveratrol regulates neuro-inflammation and induces adaptive immunity in Alzheimer’s disease
Summary: Resveratrol may help protect the brain by reducing inflammation and supporting the immune system, and targeting a protein called SIRT1 could be a new way to treat or prevent diseases.
Publication Date: 3 January 2017
Focus: Alzheimer's disease
Study Subjects: 119 patients with mild-moderate Alzheimer's disease
Dosage: 500 mg once daily, with 500 mg dose escalation every 13 weeks, up to 1g twice daily for 52 weeks
Results/Findings: After 52 weeks of taking resveratrol, there were reductions in some markers of inflammation and increases in certain growth factors, and it appeared to slow the decline in cognitive function and levels of amyloid-beta in the cerebrospinal fluid, which is important for Alzheimer's disease.
Paper #06 -Resveratrol promotes foot ulcer size reduction in type 2 diabetes patients
Summary: Compared to the control group, resveratrol treatment resulted in a decrease in the size of foot ulcers and a reduction in plasma fibrinogen levels.
Publication Date: 20 February 2014
Focus: Wound healing
Study Subjects: 24 participants who exihibited symptoms of diabetic foot ulcers in patients with type 2 diabetes
Dosage: 50 mg trans-resveratrol capsules taken twice a day, for 60 days
Results/Findings: Patients treated with resveratrol showed a greater reduction in diabetic ulcer size, a significant decrease in plasma fibrinogen levels, and marginally improved performance in foot pressure tests compared to those who received a placebo. Improvements in lipid profile and fasting glucose levels were not solely attributed to resveratrol treatment, indicating the effectiveness of medical supervision and education in newly diagnosed patients.
Paper #07 -Resveratrol protects HaCaT cells from ultraviolet B-induced photoaging via upregulation of HSP27 and modulation of mitochondrial caspase-dependent apoptotic pathway
Summary: Resveratrol may help prevent skin aging caused by UVB radiation by increasing the expression of a protective protein (HSP27), promoting cell survival (Bcl-2/Bax ratio), and reducing cell damage (caspase-3 and p65 expression).
Publication Date: 15 May 2018
Focus: Photo-aging
Study Subjects: HaCaT cells
Dosage: In-vitro study
Results/Findings: The study suggests that resveratrol may help protect against UVB-induced skin damage by upregulating HSP27 and inhibiting the mitochondrial apoptotic pathway. Resveratrol could potentially be used as a way to prevent skin aging, but further research is necessary to determine how effective it is in vivo.
Paper #08 -The effects of chronic trans-resveratrol supplementation on aspects of cognitive function, mood, sleep, health and cerebral blood flow in healthy, young humans
Summary: The study findings indicate that taking 500 mg of trans-resveratrol daily for 28 days can decrease fatigue and increase diastolic blood pressure, but it does not affect sleep, health, or chronic cerebral blood flow.
Publication Date: 7 September 2015
Focus: Fatigue
Study Subjects: 60 adults aged between 18-30 years
Dosage: 500 mg of pure trans-resveratrol once daily, for 60 days
Results/Findings: The results showed that trans-resveratrol has cognitive benefits on day 1 for accurate but slower serial subtraction task performance and on day 28 for the accuracy of the 3-Back task, while also reducing fatigue throughout the 28-day treatment period; furthermore, it modulates cerebral blood flow and increases diastolic blood pressure, with higher levels of resveratrol metabolites on day 28 compared to day 1.
